Carmen Gray watched Chris Marker’s Sans Soleil again. She copied all the subtitles and placed them one after another, without paragraphs or pauses. Every now and then, she stopped the film and took a screenshot. She cropped it until she found the image she was looking for. Photography as selection and cropping. She did this thirty-two times and left the images among the words. There is no sound here. Nothing moves. The film is now inside a book. It is not the same film, of course. It is another way of returning to it. The way we return to a memory.
